Enterprise Rent-A-Car is most certainly an age-friendly car rental company. While it does not offer lift-equipped vans for use with wheelchairs, the agency does recognize that many seniors may have disabilities. Enterprise does not believe, however, that such restrictions should keep us off the road. The company tries to maximize mobility by offering adaptive driving devices such as hand controls, left foot accelerators, spinner knobs and pedal extenders. In addition to these add-ons, Enterprise honors surrogate drivers in the event you no longer have a license.

The company not only offers outstanding customer service at each of its local and airport counters, but also a TTY-specific phone number. The company does offer a vast number of coupons and discounts for older drives, and sometimes partners with AAA as well as the AARP. Lastly, but not to be overlooked, Enterprise is one of few rental agencies that does not have an age limit.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is not just there when you need a replacement vehicle in the event your car is in the shop (or worse), but also when you want to travel. The company has counters at most, if not all, major national and international airports, with discounts for AARP members. The company keeps contracts simple and offers a host of coverage options in the event you arrive at a destination and your insurance is not honored.

Customers are always cautioned to check their final bill and contract, but customer service representatives are available for further clarification beyond the counter in the event you are in a rush do not find the discrepancy until you are on your way home. Finally, Enterprise offers travel ideas and road trips for a variety of folks looking to just explore or to knock a few items off of their bucket lists.

  • Enterprise is the largest car rental agency in the United States, with both city and airport-based locations.
  • Enterprise offers a number of discounts through seasonal partnerships with AAA and the AARP.
  • The company will pick you up in the event you are stranded or without a license.
  • Enterprise honors surrogate drivers and offers a vast number of disabled-driver add-ons.
  • The company does not charge a cancellation fee for vehicles that have not been prepaid.

  • Enterprise does not offer lift-equipped vans for wheelchairs and the like.
  • There is a $50 cancellation fee when prepayment has been received and the reservation is set to occur more than one day prior to the change of plans. The fee rises to $100 within a 24-hour period.
  • There is no guarantee that a contract will be fully honored, as each site operates relatively autonomously.
  • Customers are strongly encouraged to check their reservations as well as their final bills to ensure accuracy of charges.

Bottom Line:

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is one of the best, if not the best, option when it comes to renting a car for journeys near or far. The company does not place age restrictions on senior renters, and offers disability-focused options in order to make the rental vehicle as comfortable and as safe as possible. Restrictions vary based on location, but there are many locations in most large cities, and near airports, in the event one encounters issues.

That said, customers should take care to know what is included and excluded in their reservations, especially if they have to cancel a reservation and have made a prepayment. This will result in a cancellation fee of $50 to $100. Enterprise does its best, however, to be forthright in all transactions with customers and offers service online, in person, by phone and via mobile app.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does Enterprise require a deposit?

Yes. The company accepts credit card and debit card payments and explicitly excludes cash deposits.

Can I return a car early?

Yes, but do check with the location, as some after-hours options may be available. You can also extend your rental in the event your regular vehicle was in a wreck and is not repaired by the end of the rental agreement.

What are the restrictions of use?

Consumers are advised to check on the various restrictions for each location, as some states will charge a per-mile fee if the rental goes beyond the designated or agreed-upon area. Some Enterprise locations may also charge additional fees for one-way rentals and similar deviations from the original contract.

More Information:

Product Details

Overview: Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a door-to-door service that is both eco-friendly and economical. The agency is the largest car rental agency in the U.S., and continues to expand internationally as well. Despite its size and reach, the company keeps the customer at the forefront and does not place a maximum age on renters, nor does it prevent surrogates from driving the renter. Rental options are many and come with a plethora of add-ons to fit most needs.

Package Details: With plentiful add-ons and insurance options to trump even your best coverage, customers can build their own contracts in order to meet their unique set of circumstances.

Add-on Services:  When it comes to mobility, Enterprise Rent-A-Car is the best. The company offers pedal extenders and other mechanisms, as well as rideshare services for those not able or willing to drive themselves. Additionally, the company also honors surrogate drivers and picks you up when you need a lift to the agency location.

Additional Company Details

Contract Details: Customers of Enterprise Rent-A-Car are strongly cautioned to know whether they have prepaid or simply booked a car online or via phone, as the former can result in penalties of up to $100 for cancellations within 24 hours of the agreed upon time of pickup. Additionally, after hours drop-offs can result in refund issues, as can early returns. The bottomline remains that customers must do their due diligence in order to know exactly what they have paid for, or will pay for, on a case-by-case basis.

Warranty: Like most other car rental services, Enterprise does its best to honor the details of your reservation. That said, there is no guarantee that your booking location will have precisely what you requested, say, through the online reservation system. Unfortunately, the best one can do is investigate through consumer reviews how reliable a particular location is prior to being dropped off or picked up. To be clear, this goes double for reservations booked through third parties like Expedia or Travelocity.

Accreditations: Enterprise Holdings, Inc., maintains an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, but don’t take their word for it!  J.D. Power and Associates has also backed Enterprise by consistently ranking the car rental company as among the best seven times over the past 12 years for outstanding customer care.

Company Details: Enterprise Rent-A-Car began life 60 years ago as Executive Leasing Company. The company was renamed after the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in 1969. The company’s founder, Jack C. Taylor, served on this carrier during World War II.  Regardless of titles, the company remains the largest car rental agency in the United States, with more than 5,400 city locations and 419 airport locations.
