However, if the senior is in relatively good health but is not eating nutritional meals, this service would be a great advantage. A caregiver could assist in providing meals that are nutritious. 

As a senior’s health begins to fail, there may be a need for in-home nursing care or transfer to a nursing home. Personal caregiving can be provided at home to support grooming, bathing, incontinence care and mobility assistance. The company has pioneered specialized care for dementia patients.

Home Instead assists seniors with the daily activities of living. How are applicants screened for employment?

Each caregiver is required to submit to a drug screening, and they are bonded and insured. Each caregiver completes a comprehensive, multi-phased training program before they can work with a senior. 

How will I know if the care has been provided?

Each time the caregiver meets with the senior, they complete a ‘daily care log’ which lists the activities that the senior and caregiver did together. This is left at the senior’s home, so the family can review it. Home Instead also uses a system that requires the caregiver to check in with their phone when they arrive to provide care. These supports are non-medical in nature. A caregiver can be hired to assist with meal preparation or to help the senior set up a safe home environment to discourage falls. Some franchises offer respite care and hospice support services. You should check with your local Home Instead office for a list of the services provided.

Package Details: Each senior and family is considered individually to develop a specific care package. Services are paid by the hour. Depending on where the senior resides, the hourly rate will vary. There is no contract for services, and changes can be made as necessary.

Contract Details: The franchise owner will meet with the senior and their family to discuss the senior’s needs. This is the consultation. The owner will make a recommendation for the number of hours that a caregiver should visit. This may be negotiated with the family if the cost is too high or more hours seem to be needed. The caregiver will be identified and can start as soon as the next day. Home Instead asks the family to sign a service agreement, which covers certain situations. For example, some clients may want to hire a caregiver directly. In this case, the caregiver’s services must be ‘bought out’ from Home Instead. Bills are sent twice/month for payment. The company can arrange to split the bill if that is the desire of the family.

Warranty: If the senior and the family are not happy with the care provided, the franchise will find another caregiver. It is helpful if the senior and family can be specific about why they were unhappy.
