Esurance, founded in 1999 and acquired by Allstate in 2011. It balances the delivery of innovative coverage and communication methods for modern insurance with the solid reputation and foundation provided by Allstate’s more than 80 years in the industry. Enabling members to get quotes, make payments and submit claims entirely online or over the phone may remove the personal touch from insurance, but it does not mean they are ‘out of touch.’ Esurance was created to meet customers wherever and whenever is most convenient for them.

Unfortunately, Esurance motorcycle insurance is not available in all states, but it is a great option for coverage for any senior that lives in a qualifying state.

Esurance is insurance coverage designed for individuals who conduct their business and manage all of their accounts online. Regardless of age, anyone who has embraced connecting online will appreciate the ability to pay bills, submit claims and even tweet the company from anywhere and at any time. However, the lack of local agents would be a disadvantage for seniors who want to meet with a customer service representative in person. Esurance’s claims process stands out for ease-of-use, based on a mobile app, and is another feature that makes the company age-friendly as long as the senior is technology savvy. The coverage itself is great for any healthy and active motorcycle riders at any age.

Providing coverage for sport bikes, cruisers and trikes, Esurance has a policy that covers members as their health changes and mobility issues adjust the type of motorcycle that meets the rider’s needs. The extensive Comprehensive, Collision, Medical and Liability coverage makes sure that weekend warriors and avid, full-time riders alike are covered. As health continues to decline and mobility lessons, a rider is less likely to be using the motorcycle and coverage will be less valuable.

  • Total Loss coverage ensures that a senior will be back on the road on a similar make and model. Those without Total Loss coverage will receive a payout of actual value at the time of the accident or theft.
  • Custom and Vintage Bike coverage with an Agreed Value to protect one’s investment.
  • Domestic Partner coverage provides the reduced ‘married rate’ for same-sex couples in domestic partnerships, civil unions and marriages in states that allow a reduction in rate due to marriage.
  • Online and mobile app account management enables members to submit claims, pay bills, and add drivers or vehicles from anywhere and at any time.
  • $30,000 Custom Equipment and Accessories coverage provides security for high-value, aftermarket sidecars and electronics.
  • An innovative company with the backing of a traditional provider, blending technology with traditional values and service.
  • Where Elance receives the occasional comment or complaint on the Better Business Bureau website, it is proactive to make contact and resolve the issue immediately.

  • No local office for those who want to meet with a customer service representative or agent in person. Agents can be contacted via phone from 6 AM to 12 AM CST daily.
  • Not a specialty market provider so, while agents will be able to explain available options and what your particular state requires, but they may not be specialized enough in the motorcycle lifestyle to provide insight into what extra coverage you will value most as you age and face new health challenges.
  • Esurance only has 18 years in the insurance industry but enjoys the backing of Allstate with its over 80 years in the business.
  • Not available in all states at this time, in fact, only available in the following 11 states: Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin at the moment.

Bottom Line:

Esurance provides seniors with technology-based insurance that is accessible 24/7 via the website, mobile app and phone (6 AM to 12 AM CST). Dedicated to creating innovative ways to interact with members, Esurance focuses on helping its potential customers find the right coverage and then manage the account. Questions can be tweeted and messages posted on its Facebook wall as well. A quote can be generated before your motorcycle is even purchased.

Rated as A+ by the Better Business Bureau, Esurance is also committed to building a better and safer tomorrow for everyone. Company initiatives focusing on environmental protection, diversity and community support represent a company that cares about more than just its members. We highly recommend Esurance for motorcycle insurance coverage that is streamlined by technology and tailored to a senior’s needs.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I cover my custom/vintage bike? Esurance not only covers factory standard motorcycles but also:

  • Scooters/mopeds
  • Street-sport bikes
  • High-performance bikes
  • Limited-production and custom bikes
  • Cruisers
  • Touring and sport-touring bikes
  • Vintage bikes
  • Motocross bikes
  • Off-road/dual-purpose bikes
  • ATVs

Is my protective gear covered under my policy? Absolutely. Esurance will pay for an insured senior to replace damaged or stolen riding apparel and helmets under the Comprehensive and Collision portion of the motorcycle policy. Any high-value, custom equipment may require an Agreed Value determination.

How can I lower my premium? As with standard auto insurance, higher deductibles will create lower payments, but that increases the risk of financial responsibility in case of an accident. Esurance allows coverage limits to be customized to find the best fit and provides a variety of discounts to save its customers even more.

Overview: At this time motorcycle insurance is not mandatory in all states, but having a policy that ensures full insurance coverage in case of any incident is a good idea.

As with other types of vehicle insurance coverage, the potential provider determines the pricing for a motorcycle insurance policy based on a series of factors. It includes the age of the driver(s), accident history, vehicle make/model/age, the frequency of use, even your highest level of education and your credit score.

Custom-built cycles may require an independent appraisal or an Agreed Value negotiated between the insurance company and the owner, to prepare the correct coverage. Premiums can also be affected by the state where the vehicle is registered and that state’s minimum coverage requirements. Contacting a representative or requesting an online quote will provide a more accurate picture of total cost.
