While travel insurance is a great idea at any age, it is especially so for seniors. With the advancing years, it is nice to know you have help organizing your trip, as well as a backup plan in case anything goes wrong while traveling. AIG Travel Guard’s concierge and emergency services offer perfect support when developing travel plans, making recommendations, booking reservations and assisting in times of emergency. While advancing age does not limit the availability of policy options, prices do increase with your age. Having just three policy options makes choosing the right policy an easy process, and all plans include medical coverage.

AIG Travel Guard’s three main policies all include medical and dental coverage related to travel incidents. The company also offers a 'Medical Only' plan called MedEvac, but to obtain a quote or to purchase this policy you would have to speak to a customer service representative. As your health declines, it is likely you will have what is considered a 'pre-existing condition.' A pre-existing medical condition waiver may be obtained on some plans if you purchase your policy within 15 days of making your initial trip downpayment and if your condition is stable. (A recent diagnosis or change in care could derail such a waiver.) If you are dealing with pre-existing conditions, it is important to contact an AIG representative to get clarity on whether they would be covered or not under the policy. The last thing you need is the unpleasant surprise of finding out you have no coverage when you need it far from home.

  •  Having just three comprehensive policy options keeps the selection process uncomplicated.
  • Many add-on insurances and upgrades, plus non-insurance services, allow you to customize the policy you select.
  • AIG’s Bag Trak service helps locate your lost luggage and sees that it is returned promptly.
  • Travel Guard's excellent 24/7/365 concierge service will help with all your travel emergencies.
  • Parts of some plans are 'primary,' which means they pay regardless what other insurance you have.
  • All plans include medical expense coverage as part of the plan, although the company also offers a 'Medical Emergency Only' plan called MedEvac.

  • A waiver for a pre-existing medical condition may be needed for a recent diagnosis or change in care. However, waivers only apply if the plan is purchased 15-day window after initial trip payment.
  • AIG Travel Guard does not offer a smartphone app.
  • Policy pricing increases with age.
  • For a quick turnaround on a claim, you must use fax or email.
  • The company offers no annual plans.

Bottom Line:

AIG Travel Guard provides comprehensive insurance coverage for all of your travel needs. The three policy options are easy to understand and evaluate, so you can select the plan that best fits the needs of your upcoming travel. If you are not interested in complete coverage, you can inquire about their 'Medical Emergency Only' plan, MedEvac, but would have to do that directly with an AIG representative. Areas covered by Travel Guard’s Insurance policies include trip cancellation, delays, baggage lost/stolen and medical emergencies. Should you need assistance, AIG Travel Guard has a 24/7 concierge service that can guide you to the best outcome possible. Travel Guard’s comprehensive policies go a long way towards providing peace of mind while you are away from home.
