Travel Insured International, with its 20 years of experience providing comprehensive travel insurance plans to worldwide travelers, has joined with insurance powerhouse Crum & Forster to provide even better coverage.

Travel insurance is more important to seniors than to most younger travelers, as medical conditions put us at greater risk. Our enhanced risk aversion also leads us to minimize extraordinary expenses and losses, including non-refundable prepayments. Travel Insured International provides quick, easy and comprehensive insurance plans to protect against those risks to differing degrees. With three policy options to choose from, understanding your options is not complicated. Then, the company's list of upgrade options lets you build the plan that is perfectly tailored to your travel needs. As part of Crum & Forster and its parent company Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. since 2015, the company has the financial strength to meet all its goals and promises.

While travel insurance increases in importance as we age, buying it should not be a challenge. In reality, the older we get, the easier we want it to be. Travel Insured's intuitive website makes evaluating the available plans and the various upgrade options straightforward, so you can build a policy that provides the exact protection you want for your trip. No more, no less. The effective use of infographics and handy "What To Do When" resource sheets keep the process manageable. Travel Insured has made purchasing their product 'friendly,' but has not been able to do the same with its premium prices. The company does not impose age limits on policy availability but, like many others, does raise premium prices as we age.

For a senior who is managing a chronic medical condition, travel can add a layer of stress as you worry about needing medical attention while away from home. Travel insurance can provide a safety net for that condition as long as the specific plan offers it and the pre-existing condition is deemed stable and controlled at the time of purchase. The timing in which the insurance policy is purchased is critical: during a 21-day window counted from the first payment made for the trip. Also, following the insurer's instructions carefully ensures that coverage is not denied. One Travel Insured plan offers a 'Medical Only' plan for international travel, as well as the ability to increased limits and expense coverage as an upgrade.

Pros:

  • Three plans, with several upgrade options, make for easy policy comparisons.
  • Accident and Sickness Medical Expense on the top plan is 'primary' (pays for covered expenses without regard to other insurance or coverage that you may have).
  • 'Medical Only' coverage available for international travelers.
  • Infographics provide easy-to-understand explanation of services, trip planning and coverage options.
  • Reference sheets for “What to Do When” are provided to help you when things go wrong.

Cons:

  • Not all upgrades are available to all plans.
  • Only single-trip policies are available.
  • Prices increase with advanced age.

Bottom Line:

Travel Insured International provides travel protection plans which include insurance benefits and non-insurance travel assistance services. Travel Insured offers three comprehensive plans, plus a 'Medical Only' policy option for international travel. The company offers optional upgrades, although not all upgrades are available with all plans. Plans do provide all the basic coverages you need, such as trip cancellation and interruption, delays, lost baggage, medical and emergency evacuations. With Travel Insured, you have access to a helpful website, quick policy comparisons and comprehensive travel insurance plans.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long will it take to review my claim?

Travel Insured International’s parent company, Crum & Forster, provides claims-handling services through a team of 500 claim professionals nationwide. Once notified of your claim, the company will send you a claim package that provides the forms and instructions needed to submit your claim. You can call a Claims Support Specialist on the company’s toll-free line 8 AM-7:30 PM ET Mon-Fri. While the process is well explained on the website, no turnaround time is provided.

If I change my mind after enrolling in a protection plan, can I get a refund?

If you are not satisfied for any reason, you may cancel insurance under your policy by giving the company or the agent notice in writing within the first to occur: (a) 14 days from the effective date of your insurance; or (b) your scheduled departure date. If you do this, the company will refund the premium paid, provided no insured has filed a claim under this policy. Note that ‘processing fees’ are not refundable. (This is not identical in all states.)
