The BP Motor Club is a roadside assistance company with 40 years of industry experience, offering three straightforward membership plans billed monthly. For drivers who value simplicity, reliability, and peace of mind on every journey, BP MotorClub delivers essential coverage at an affordable price, with the convenience of no annual contract.
The BP MotorClub is a little-known name in the roadside assistance industry, but only because it likes to keep things simple by offering three roadside assistance plans that include everything you need to get out of a jam. The monthly billing cycle is a super perk for those on the go, as is the one buck for the first-month promotion. For drivers who need help in an emergency, the club’s network of local independent service partners ensures rapid dispatch across nearly all U.S. counties. However, this club may not be the best option for California residents or those looking for concierge services and a mobile app.

Positive Reviews of The BP MotorClub
The amazing lady behind the counter
To the more mature lady at BP that paid $5 for my gas as my card wasn’t working. Thank you so much you are so awesome.
I visited BP Riven Hall and the cashier
I visited BP Riven Hall and the cashier Shabeeth was really helpful and friendly. Was a good stop in that services.
BP garage in Adel
BP garage in Adel, Leeds. The staff here are fantastic, especially the girls on a Sunday. Very friendly and efficient, could not be more helpful.
Negative Reviews of The BP MotorClub
BP Stroud Gloucestershire
Called at BP Stroud Gloucestershire to buy diesel. Customers were allowed in the shop without masks. The cashier made no attempt to stop them or refuse service. With the covid variants now prevalent it’s unbelievably irresponsible. Get your act together BP.
Went to petrol station in Kirkcaldy
Went to petrol station in Kirkcaldy. Nozzle was “out of order” so I moved my car to another pump, when I used it, nozzle was soaking in diesel, and then the card reader didn’t work.
The rewards programme is so funny
You get 1 point per litre and 200 litres are worth £1. Thanks for the pound but could you make it a bit better please. Shell gives slightly better reward of £3 per 300 litres and 10% off food, car wash, etc.

The BP MotorClub is most things to most seniors but can fall short when it comes to medical or age-specific assistance options, such as concierge service. However, for those who sign up for a membership, it still provides a healthy dose of travel-related discounts ranging from 5% to 40% off regular rates at thousands of hotels, motels, and resorts in the U.S. and Canada.
For the adventurous among us, the BP MotorClub is the best option, as it has travel information at the ready. A few examples include currency exchange rates, up-to-the-minute weather reports, political climate reports, park-related information, cool sites, and accessibility tips, offering real peace of mind for seniors who travel frequently.
Health Score
| 10 | 9 | 6 | 4 |

BP MotorClub is not overly committed to one niche customer segment, unlike other roadside assistance providers. What BP lacks in health-related options, it makes up for with travel resources that include special needs planning options, tourism office locations, travel books, travel tools, travel guides, parks, sports tips, and weather information.
BP Motor Club Membership Plans, Pricing, and Fees
BP Motor Club offered three membership tiers with different levels of roadside assistance and travel protection. All roadside assistance plans came with a $1 first-month introductory offer, giving seniors a low-risk way to evaluate the service before committing to regular monthly fees. Coverage Areas, How to Join, and Claims Process
Where BP Motor Club Is Available
- United States: All states except California
- Canada: Covered for members traveling there
- Puerto Rico: Included in all plan levels
California residents cannot enroll in any plan. Existing members can still receive assistance while traveling through California. On Premier and Premier Plus plans, the Dispatch Guarantee provides up to $240 in reimbursement if a provider cannot be located.
How to Sign Up for BP Motor Club
- Choose a plan: Silver, Premier, or Premier Plus
- Provide basic personal and vehicle information
- Pay $1 for the first month and sign up online to lock in the introductory rate
- Coverage begins immediately upon enrollment
- Membership card is mailed; any services before it arrives are paid upfront and reimbursed later
Claims Process
When you need roadside assistance, call the appropriate phone number for your plan level. A dispatch agent will coordinate a local service provider from the partner network to reach your location. If no provider is available on a Premier or Premier Plus plan, BP Motor Club’s Dispatch Guarantee reimburses out-of-pocket emergency expenses up to $240, a strong protection that offers real peace of mind. For reimbursement claims such as lockout fees or towing costs, members submit receipts by phone or mail. Average dispatch times are approximately 13.7 minutes, reflecting the reliability and safety of the club’s service network.
BP Motor Club Customer Service and Support
- Premier and Premier Plus phone: 1-800-START-UP
- Silver phone: 1-800-334-3300
- Hours: 7 AM–8 PM CST, Monday through Friday
- TTY service available for hearing-impaired consumers
BP Motor Club did not offer a mobile app. Drivers requesting roadside assistance had to call the customer service phone line to get help dispatched. Competitors like AAA and Allstate offer app-based dispatch that simplifies the process during a stressful breakdown, a convenience that BP Motor Club lacked.
How BP Motor Club Compares to Other Motor Clubs
BP Motor Club vs. AAA
AAA offers a broader service network, a mobile app, and a wider range of member perks including passport photos, notary services, and DMV assistance. BP Motor Club was generally more affordable with lower monthly fees and the $1 introductory offer. For budget-focused seniors who primarily need emergency roadside coverage and travel discounts, BP Motor Club offered solid value and reliability.
BP Motor Club vs. AARP Roadside Assistance
AARP Roadside Assistance is designed specifically for older adults and includes app-based dispatch and AARP member discounts. Given that BP Motor Club was acquired by Allstate, an insurance company, which also powers AARP Roadside Assistance, the two programs now share common ownership.
BP Motor Club vs. Good Sam Roadside Assistance
Good Sam specializes in RV and trailer coverage, making it the better fit for seniors with heavy rigs or towable equipment. BP Motor Club’s RV coverage was limited to vehicles under 2,000 pounds carrying capacity, making Good Sam the better choice for that business of full-time RV travel.
Pros and Cons of BP Motor Club
Pros
- Flexible monthly billing with easy cancellation, no annual contract or high fees
- All three packages provide towing, lockout service, lockouts, lost key, stolen key, and winching services
- Generous travel benefits including Pathfinder Trip Routing, hotel discounts, car rental discounts, and travel weather information for journey safety
- Auto Buying tools with average new-car savings of $1,273
- Warranty repair guarantee when the same repair is needed within six months or 6,000 miles and 50+ miles from the original facility
- Coverage follows the member, not the vehicle, covering leased, rented, or borrowed cars
- $240 Dispatch Guarantee on Premier plans, a rare benefit and sign of reliability in the industry
- Immediate coverage from the day you enrol, convenience for drivers who need protection right away
- TTY support for hearing-impaired consumers
- Strong partner network through Signature Motor Club, Inc. ensuring fast, reliable dispatch
Cons
- The $1 first-month deal only applies to those who sign up online
- None of the tiers cover trailers or boats

- Not available to California residents for enrollment
- No legal expense coverage or insurance for traffic violations
- Limited RV coverage for vehicles over 2,000 pounds carrying capacity
- Not BBB accredited
- Program acquired by Allstate; current availability and fees may differ
Bottom Line
The BP MotorClub offers the simplest roadside assistance plans and does not skimp on getting a member out of trouble, no matter the circumstance. While other top-notch roadside assistance companies bill annually and charge high fees, BP breaks the mold by billing every 30 days with low monthly fees, offering one buck for the first-month promotion for those who sign up online. This combination of affordability, reliability, and convenience makes it a strong choice for drivers who need basic protection without complexity.
Its three tiers of service are all-encompassing, with easy cancellation for such services as towing, lockout service, lost and stolen key service, winching, road and tow reimbursements, guaranteed arrest bonds, auto theft deterrent awards, Pathfinder Trip Routing Services, travel services, hotel discounts, car rental discounts, weather information, emergency travel reservation assistance, access to the travel information hotline, auto buying tools, vehicle repair referrals, warranty repair service, and vehicle repair check guarantees.
The top two plans include the lost key return service and trip interruption guarantee. The BP MotorClub does fall short in a few categories, as it does not offer memberships to residents of California and lacks concierge services, a mobile app, and insurance-level protection. Ultimately, if one is looking for simplicity, peace of mind, and immediate coverage in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada, the BP MotorClub should be a top consideration.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is BP Motor Club?
BP Motor Club is a roadside assistance company that was born of the 1998 merger between American Oil Company (AMOCO) and British Petroleum (BP). It offered three membership levels, Silver, Premier, and Premier Plus, with services including towing, lockouts, fuel delivery, and travel discounts. The company was later acquired by Allstate Insurance around 2023.
What are the membership fees for BP Motor Club?
BP Motor Club membership fees started at $6.50 per month for the Silver plan, $8.99 per month for Premier, and $9.99 per month for Premier Plus. All plans offered a $1 first-month promotion for those who sign up online. There were no annual fees, members billed monthly and could cancel simply by stopping payment.
What if I move? Am I still covered?
Memberships are good for all United States citizens except for California residents. If you are moving to a new state, be sure to call BP MotorClub to verify that your coverage will not lapse.
If I am a commercial driver, am I still covered?
Members must be in a private, non-commercial car. That said, the member does not necessarily have to own the vehicle, as the stranded motor can be in a leased, rented, or borrowed status. Even if recreational vehicles exceed four wheels and 2,000 pounds, the stranded party may still request a jump start or fuel delivery, fully covered under the motor club.
What if my vehicle is stuck in the mud, snow, or worse?
The BP MotorClub spares no expense when it comes to a stuck private vehicle. Its roadside assistance covers winching and stuck-vehicle service with no questions asked.
What is the BP Motor Club Dispatch Guarantee?
Available on Premier and Premier Plus plans, if BP Motor Club could not locate a local service provider, they would reimburse the member’s out-of-pocket emergency expenses up to $240. This is an unusually strong protection that is rare among roadside assistance programs and gives drivers real peace of mind about safety on any journey.
How do I make a claim with BP Motor Club?
To make a claim, call the phone number on your membership card, 1-800-START-UP for Premier/Premier Plus or 1-800-334-3300 for Silver. A representative will dispatch a partner from the service network to your location. For reimbursement claims such as lockout fees or towing costs, members submit receipts by phone or mail. Following the Allstate acquisition, consumers should contact Allstate directly for current claims processes.
Is BP Motor Club still operating?
BP Motor Club was acquired by Allstate Insurance company around 2023. Former members were transitioned to Allstate roadside assistance. Contact Allstate directly to verify current coverage and available roadside assistance plans.
