The BP MotorClub is a little-known name in the roadside assistance industry, but only because it likes to keep things simple by offering three packages that include everything you need to get out of a jam. The monthly billing cycle is a super perk for those on the go, as is the one buck for the first month promotion. This club is ill-suited for residents of California, though, as well as for those looking for concierge services.

The BP MotorClub is most things to most seniors, but can fall short when it comes to medical or age-specific assistance options such as concierge service, which it does not offer. The club still provides a healthy dose of travel-related discounts that range in value from 5% to 40% off regular rates at thousands of hotels, motels and resorts in the U.S. and Canada.

For the adventurous among us, the BP MotorClub is the best option, as it has travel information at the ready. A few examples include currency exchange rates, up-to-the-minute weather reports, political climate reports, park-related information, cool sites and accessibility tips. Ultimately, this roadside assistance program is best for those willing to go the extra mile (no pun intended) and venture beyond the local grocer.

Unlike other roadside assistance providers, the BP MotorClub is not overly committed to one niche customer segment. Therefore, it does not offer any particular health-related products. What BP lacks in health-related options, however, it more than makes up for with travel resources that include special needs planning options, tourism office locations, travel books, magazines, a cool site, travel tools, travel guides, parks, sports tips and weather information.

Pros:

  • The BP MotorClub is flexible and fair with its monthly billing cycle, easy cancellation and coverage even for those vehicles technically outside of spec (i.e., over 2,000 pounds).
  • All three packages provide towing, lockout, lost key, stolen key and winching services.
  • The BP MotorClub offers generous travel benefits and services with its Pathfinder Trip Routing Services, Hotel Discounts, Car Rental Discounts, instant travel weather information, emergency travel reservation assistance and access to the travel information service hotline.
  • Members and non-members both benefit from auto buying tools and new car research, which boast average new-car savings of $1,273.
  • The BP MotorClub guarantees warranty repair service when a repair is inadequate, the member is over 50 miles from the first repair facility, and the same repair is required within six months or 6,000 miles of the initial fix.

Cons:

  • The one buck for the first month deal is only applicable to those who signed up for a membership online.
  • None of the tiers cover trailers or boats, which may be a disappointment for the adventurous among us.
  • The BP MotorClub does not offer a concierge service, mobile app or other similar high-end perks that are frequently associated with standard roadside assistance packages.

Bottom Line:

The BP MotorClub offers the simplest coverage options and does not skimp on getting a member out of trouble, no matter the circumstance. While the other top-notch roadside assistance companies bill on an annual cycle, BP breaks the mold by billing every 30 days and offering a one buck for the first month promotion for those who sign up online.

Its three tiers of service are all-encompassing, with easy cancellation for such services as towing, lockout service, lost and stolen key service, winching, road and tow reimbursements, guaranteed arrest bonds, auto theft deterrent awards, pathfinder trip routing services, travel services, hotel discounts, car rental discounts, weather information, emergency travel reservation assistance, access to the travel information hotline, auto buying tools, vehicle repair referrals, warranty repair service and vehicle repair check guarantees.

The top two plans come with the lost key return service and trip interruption guarantee. The BP MotorClub does fall short in a few premium categories, as it does not offer memberships to residents of California and fails to provide concierge services as well as a mobile app, which are standard pairings for most in our increasingly connected world. Ultimately, if one is looking for simplicity and immediate coverage in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada, then the BP MotorClub should be a top consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What if I move? Am I still covered?

Memberships are good for all citizens of the United States except for residents of California. If you are moving to a new state, be sure to call BP MotorClub to verify that your coverage will not lapse.

If I am a commercial driver, am I still covered?

Members must be in a private, non-commercial car. That said, the member does not have to necessarily own the vehicle, as the stranded motor can be in a leased, rented or borrowed status. Of note, even if recreational vehicles exceed four wheels and 2,000 pounds, the stranded party may still request a jump start or fuel delivery, which is fully covered under the motor club.

What if my vehicle is stuck in mud, snow or worse?

The BP MotorClub spares no expense when it comes to a private vehicle that is stuck. Its roadside assistance covers winching and stuck-vehicle service with no questions asked.

More Information:

Product Details

Overview: The BP MotorClub keeps their offerings generous and simple. Exceptions are few and are primarily geographic in nature. For example, residents of California are not able to sign up for memberships and all members need to reside in the U.S. and have a valid driver’s license. Those exclusions aside, the Silver, Premier and Premier Plus plans all offer coverage of RVs, SUVs, private vehicles, motorcycles, light trucks and pick-ups. Coverage is also extended beyond the U.S. to Puerto Rico and Canada.

All three packages include towing, lockout service, lost and stolen key service, winching, road and tow reimbursements, guaranteed arrest bonds, auto theft deterrent awards, pathfinder trip routing services, travel services, hotel discounts, car rental discounts, weather information, emergency travel reservation assistance, access to the travel information hotline, auto buying tools, vehicle repair referrals, warranty repair service and vehicle repair check guarantees.

Package Details: There are very few differences between the Silver, Premier and Premier Plus plans, with the exception of the lost key return service and trip interruption guarantee, which are only available with the Premier and Premier Plus offerings. Additionally, towing distances and reimbursement amounts are also scaled based on the plan, but no assistance activity is specifically excluded from any of the packages.

Unlike other roadside providers, the BP MotorClub offers full roadside assistance to four-wheel vehicles destined for private on-road use, motorcycles, SUVs, light trucks and RVs with a carrying capacity up to 2,000 pounds. Even for vehicles with more than four wheels or weighing in at over 2,000 pounds, BP still offers jump starts and fuel delivery.

Add-on Services:  Regardless of whether you are a member or not, the BP MotorClub offers exclusive help and buying power for those on the hunt for a new car. The Auto Buying Service is available to all and guarantees that those who elect to use the service receive upfront pricing. This service saves the shopper, on average, $1,273. All tiers come with vehicle repair referral services, warranty repair guarantees and vehicle repair checks at authorized dealers. Premier and Premier Plus also come with the Trip Interruption Guarantee, Dispatch Guarantees and the Lost Key Return Service.

Additional Company Details

Contract Details:  Membership plans are monthly and available for just one dollar for the first month. After the introductory period, however, the Silver roadside assistance plan is $6.50/month,and the Premier and Premier Plus memberships cost $8.99 and $9.99/month respectively. Cancellation is easy with BP, as the customer simply has to stop paying the monthly fee. For added peace of mind, call the customer assistance line.

Warranty: While BP does not offer an outright warranty or 30-day money-back guarantee like other clubs, its one month for a buck deal is hard to beat and allows for easy cancellation if the services rendered are subpar. Additionally, if roadside assistance is unable to perform the necessary steps to aid in a rescue, then BP MotorClub offers reimbursements for lockout services, lost key service, stolen key service, accident towing costs, vandalism towing expenses and fire towing charges. BP also offers warranty repair services if your vehicle quits after 50 miles or more from the first repair facility and the same repair is required within six months or 6,000 miles due to defect parts or workmanship.

Accreditations: BP MotorClub is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau and has not received a rating.

Company Details: The BP MotorClub was born of the 1998 merger between the American Oil Company, or AMOCO, and British Petroleum (BP). The club began life as the AMOCO MotorClub, but continues to maintain many standard roadside assistance offerings despite its rebranding efforts in 1999 and 2000.
